CartStore supports high traffic stores, on a single dedicated server CartStore can support between 70 - 140 concurrent page loads per second without overloading the server and if you run two dedicated servers one for the database and one for the php CartStore supports 170 - 350 concurrent page loads per second or around 15 million page loads or about 3-4 million shoppers per month. CartStore has been confirmed to support traffic to these amounts on a dual CPU Intel Zeon with 2 gigs of ram and these numbers can be increased if the server has more cpu's, memory etc. or doesnt use su-php. Site speed is also increased by commenting out certain sts template system includes of unused modules and utilizing limited category menu modules or reusing the same module for multiple menus. For stores with a large catalog certain unused sts variables especially inclusion of dual menu modules will need to be commented out.
